Matt Daley signed with the Colorado Rockies during the week following the 2004 MLB Draft. Daley was sent to play with the club's rookie league team, the Casper Rockies in Wyoming, a part of the Pioneer League.

Daley piqued the interest of major league scouts following a productive summer of 2003 in an Illinois amateur collegiate league, and continued that level of play into the 2004 Bucknell season. During a 30-inning stretch without an earned run, Daley came within one out of a nine-inning no-hitter against Dartmouth in Bradenton, Fla., and got that no-hitter in a seven-inning contest against Lehigh on April 3. It was the fourth no-hitter in Bucknell history and closest ever to a perfect game, with two hit batsmen separating Daley from perfection. Bucknell's other no-hitters came in 1956, 1993 and 1998.

The Garden City, N.Y., native earned a 6-2 record with a 2.82 ERA his senior season. In 51 innings, Daley struck out 49, including 10 in his no-hit game, allowed just 10 walks, 33 hits and 18 runs, 16 earned. His excellent control was also a drawing point for scouts, as Daley went his entire senior season without a wild pitch. After winning his first six games, Daley had a 1.93 ERA before running into arm troubles in starts against Army and Lafayette.

Daley was a part of Patriot League Champion Bison squads in 2001 and 2003, helping the team to NCAA Tournament appearances both years.

In his first professional season, Daley appeared in 21 games picking up two wins and one loss for the Casper Rockies. Daley posted a 4.75 ERA, third best on the team, and threw in 30.1 innings, allowing 16 earned runs and striking out 21.

Daley was promoted to the low class-A Ashville Tourists in 2005 and responded with a successful season. He posted a record of 8-2 as a relief pitcher in 45 appearances. He had a 3.99 ERA and was selected to the South Atlantic League all-star team.

This year, Daley was promoted to the class A advanced Modesto Nuts and had a brief but successful three-game stint wite the double-A Tulsa Drillers, posting a 1.42 ERA in 6.1 innings with two strikeouts.

Last season, Daley was promoted to the Drillers and appeared in 43 games with 10 starts, logging a 2-6 record with a 3.49 ERA. He totaled 22 walks and 84 strikeouts over 95.1 innings pitched.
