Bucknell's Boon, Linthicum Honored

Dec. 31, 2007

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell freshman G.W. Boon (Harvest, Ala./Sparkman) earned his first career Anaconda Patriot League Rookie of the Week citation on Monday after scoring a career-high 12 points in his first collegiate start in Saturday's victory over Long Beach State at the Golden Bear Classic in Berkeley, Calif.

Boon, who is averaging 5.7 points per game, made four 3-pointers in seven attempts en route to the 12-point night in Bucknell's 61-57 victory. The game was tied at 45 with 4:36 remaining when Boon connected on his third trey of the night, giving the Bison the lead for good. Then just 26 seconds later he hit another big 3-pointer that stretched a one-point lead to four.

Boon also had four rebounds, an assist and a blocked shot in the victory. For the season he ranks third on the team and 14th in the Patriot League in 3-pointers made with 15.

Junior center Josh Linthicum (Farmington, N.M./Virginia Episcopal School) also picked up an honor this weekend when he was named to the all-tournament team at the Golden Bear Classic. Linthicum had two terrific games for the Bison. In the opener, a 68-60 loss to North Dakota State, he had 18 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots - all career highs.

A night later in the win over Long Beach State, he surpassed his career high again with 12 rebounds and also scored nine points. Three of his four field goals came in the final 2:32 of the game, including two monumental put-backs - one with 1:13 left and one with 0:29 left - that kept the Bison in the lead in a tight game.

Linthicum is in his first season as Bucknell's starting center, and he has really come on in the last five games. In that span he is averaging 11.6 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game.

Bucknell is 5-7 on the season after splitting the two games at Cal, and the Bison will be back in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Ohio at Sojka Pavilion.
