Bucknell Spring Football Scrimmage Slated for Saturday Morning

April 25, 2008

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell football team has been practicing hard for nearly a month in preparation for the 2008 season, and spring camp officially concludes on Saturday morning with the annual Orange & Blue intrasquad scrimmage at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.

Admission is free, and a live video Webcast of the scrimmage will be available on SportsJuice.com. Doug Birdsong and George Burman will provide the play-by-play and discuss the team's outlook for the coming season.

The Bison will take the field at 10 a.m., and after about 30 minutes of warm-up time, head coach Tim Landis and his staff will put the team through nine different game situations. The scrimmage will start with the field goal unit against the field goal block team, and ensuing periods will focus on coming out from deep in the offense's own territory; driving the ball from the offense's own 35; punt vs. punt rush; sudden change of possession; goal line offense/defense; overtime; and the two-minute drill.

Head coach Tim Landis indicated that the scrimmage would entail about 65 plays.

Bucknell next season returns 36 letterman and 16 starters - six on offense, eight on defense and the two kicking specialists. The Bison open the 2008 season at home on Sept. 6 against Duquesne. That will be the first of six home games, with others coming against Cornell, Hofstra, Colgate, Lafayette and Fordham.
