April 20, 2008

Results

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- In its final tuneup prior to the Patriot League Championship, the Bucknell men's golf team shot 301 on Sunday and finished in seventh place at the Navy Spring Invitational.

Keita Aoki (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International School) shot a 1-over-par 72 to lead the Bison in the final round, which was delayed twice by thunderstorms. Aoki was 4-over for the weekend and finished in a tie for seventh place.

Ben Mattingly (Fishers, Ind./Park Tudor) carded a 73 on Sunday and shot 147 for the tournament, good for a tie for 14th place. Also for the Bison in the final round, Rahul Desai (Avon, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) shot his second straight 77, Stuart Lindgren (Richfield, Minn./Richfield) finished in 79, and Andrew Cohen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) shot 81.

Navy and Iona tied for first place at 589, and the host Midshipmen were declared winners on fifth-player score. George Washington (592) finished third, followed by Florida Gulf Coast (596) and Johnson & Wales (597).

Navy's Ben Hayes won the individual title at 3-under, five shots better than Russel Giglio of Iona.

Bucknell and Navy will meet again at the Patriot League Championship next Saturday and Sunday at Saucon Valley Country Club in the Lehigh Valley. The Bison will be looking for their third straight conference title.
