Bucknell's Kevin MacLeod and Rebecca Frey Honored With Patriot League Weekly Awards

April 22, 2008

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Long Meadow) and freshman Rebecca Frey (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) of the Bucknell track and field team were honored as Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, following their performances at the Bucknell Team Challenge this past weekend, the league announced Tuesday.

As the Bison men took second behind Penn State in the scored meet, MacLeod led the way in the 400-meter hurdles. He ran a career-best time of 52.52 to win the event. His IC4A-qualfying time is also the second-fastest in school history, and just 0.01 seconds shy of an NCAA East Regional standard. MacLeod went on to score for the Orange and Blue in the 110-meter hurdles. He placed third with a time of 15.16.

Frey helped the women to a second-place finish behind Penn State as well, winning the pole vault. Frey recorded a height of 11-11 ¾, to take first and tie her career-best mark in the event. Her ECAC height is also tied for the third-best in Bucknell history.

Both MacLeod and Frey earned Patriot League weekly awards during indoor season as well. MacLeod was named Track Athlete of the Week on Dec. 11, for setting a new school record in the preliminaries for the 60-meter hurdles at the Bison Open (8.34). Frey earned Rookie of the Week honors on Dec. 11, after placing second overall and posting the highest mark of collegiate competitors at the Bison Opener in the pole vault (11-9 ¾). She earned her second Rookie of the Week honor on Jan. 15, after winning the pole vault at the Gulden Relays to tie her ECAC-qualifying and fourth-best program mark of 11-9 ¾.

This is the fourth consecutive week that Bucknell has taken Rookie of the Week honors on the women's side. Freshman Laura Rycek (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) was tabbed as the league's winner on April 1, April 9, and again on April 15.

The Bucknell men's and women's track and field teams are now prepared to have athletes compete at the Penn Relays this weekend, April 24-26, and at the Red Flash Open, hosted by Saint Francis (Pa.), on April 26.
