Bucknell Wrestling's Shane Riccio Named Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week

Feb. 18, 2008

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell wrestling sophomore 174-pounder Shane Riccio (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) was named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday after stretching his dual meet winning streak to 14 straight with two victories this past weekend, helping the Bison past East Stroudsburg and American.

Riccio, who has not dropped a duals match since his Nov. 24 loss to then-ranked No. 4 Steve Luke of Michigan, posted a 6-0 win over Shane Mallory last Friday as the Bison defeated East Stroudsburg, 28-9.

He then went on to clinch Sunday's meet, a 30-14 triumph over American, by pinning Jonathon Powell in 1:47.

Riccio is currently 22-6 overall after overcoming a 3-4 start to the season. In duals, he is 15-1, including a 6-0 mark against EIWA foes. Riccio has not surrendered a takedown to an opponent in his last 11 bouts, a streak that dates back to a 4-2 victory over Missouri's James Williamson on Jan. 4, and has not given up a single point in his last four matches.

Bucknell (9-10-1, 4-3 EIWA) will close out its 2007-08 dual meet schedule this Saturday, Feb. 23, when the squad will travel to Ithaca, N.Y., to face defending EIWA champion Cornell at 3 p.m.
