LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell University held a special presentation on Sunday, October 3, in recognition of the contributions of Dorothy Harvey Lloyd to the Bucknell field hockey program. The ceremony was held prior to Sunday's field hockey game at Graham Field.

Dorothy Harvey Lloyd, or "Bugs" as she was known to her 1953 classmates, was one of the pioneers of the sport of field hockey here at Bucknell University. A four-year captain and starter for what was then a club team, Bugs was selected to the Mid-East Conference All-Star Team on several occasions. In her senior year she was the president of the Women's Athletic Association and was named Bucknell's Women's Athlete of the Year. In addition, Bugs was involved in leadership roles outside of sports in Bucknell Student Government and Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

On Sunday, Bucknell University thanked Bugs' family and friends for memorializing her by establishing the Dorothy H. Lloyd Memorial Field Hockey Endowment, an operating fund for the Bison Field Hockey program that is the first endowed operating fund for a Bucknell University women's sports program.

Representing the Lloyd family and friends on Sunday were Dorothy's husband, Arthur Lloyd - Bucknell Class of 1953 -- Bugs' daughter, Ginny, and her son, Tom. They were joined by Bucknell's Director of Athletics John Hardt, Associate Director of Athletics & Senior Woman Administrator Amanda Backus, Hall of Famer - Peg Bryan - who was the first director of women's intercollegiate athletics at Bucknell, and head field hockey coach Heather Lewis.

In appreciation for the support of her family and friends, Bucknell University announced that the head women's field hockey coach's office has been named in memory of Dorothy Harvey "Bugs" Lloyd, Bucknell Class of 1953. A plaque commemorating this has been placed outside the office located in Davis Gym.

Field hockey fell 3-2 to Indiana on Sunday. The Bison will be in action again on Saturday against Holy Cross. The Patroit League matchup is set for 12 p.m. in Worcester, Mass.
