2008 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship Page

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's track and field team closed out the second day of the 2008 Patriot League Indoor Championships on Saturday afternoon. After two days of competition, Bucknell leads the way in first with 60 points, followed by second-place Lafayette (59), third-place Navy (42), fourth-place Holy Cross (19), fifth-place Lehigh (18), sixth-place Army (9), seventh-place Colgate (6) and eighth-place American (4).

Senior Nicole Ayala (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) took the long jump title with a career-best mark and the sixth-best distance in program history, 18-3 ¼. Sophomore Jennifer Pierce (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands) also scored for the Orange and Blue in the event, placing sixth with a mark of 17-4 ¾.

Bucknell's 4x800 relay team of senior Mariel Fink (Pennington, N.J./Hun School of Princeton), senior Victoria Gilbert (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom), sophomore Allison Janda (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) and senior Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) won the event with an ECAC-qualifying and season-best time of 9:08.11.

Freshman Rebecca Frey (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) tied her career-best ECAC-qualifying height of 11-9 ¾ in the pole vault to place second in the event. Her mark is also the fourth-best in Bucknell history.

In the weight throw, senior Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) led the Bison, scoring in the event after notching her second ECAC-qualifying mark in the event this season, placing third with a distance of 52-9 ¼.

In the semifinal for the 60-meter dash, sophomore Stephanie Evans (York, Pa./Central York) ran a career-best time of 7.92, the second-fastest in Bucknell history, to place fifth. She will run in the final for the event on Sunday. Evans went on to qualify for the final in the 200-meter dash, to be run on Sunday as well, after finishing sixth in the prelim with a career-best time of 26.18. She was followed by junior Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) in seventh, with a career-best time of 26.46. Hathaway will also run in the final for the event on Sunday.

Bucknell had two athletes score in the high jump. Sophomore Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) posted a top finish of 5-5 for second place while junior Kati Dempsey (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) picked up a third-place finish with a height of 5-3.

In the 5,000-meter run, junior Nicole Falcaro (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) scored for the Orange and Blue, picking up a fifth-place finish with a season-best time of 18:09.14.

The 2008 Patriot League Championships will conclude on Sunday, Feb. 24, with field events starting at 10 a.m. and finals for running events set to begin at 12 p.m. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place at 5 p.m.
